There are many companies, often referred to as networks, offering a variety of free gifts form which you can chose. After signing up to a network offering the gift you want, and completing an offer you work towards getting a certain amount of referrals signed up to your account, and they complete their own offer. To do this you are given a special unique link to your account to pass on to people you know.
Once you have completed this your account will be verified and providing there are no problems your free gift will be on its way to you shortly, in most cases within 2 weeks. The networks have to verify the accounts due to people trying to fraud the system, and so long as you have followed the networks terms and conditions you wont have anything to worry about.
To give some more background to this, when you complete an offer on the site you signed up to, the networks is paid a commission by an advertising company acting on behalf of the company behind the offer. Its the advertising company’s job to bring in new customers to the company, and they often work with site offering an incentive to do this. For each offer completed the network is paid a commission fee from the advertiser for bringing in a new customer which goes towards the cost of your gift, as well as making a small profit for the network!
In the early days of these sites the free gifts you could get were typically mp3 players and games consoles, today there is a much wider range of gifts on offer, some sites let you send in a Amazon Wish-list or allow you to take a cash alternative.
